To have killed your first kid?

Surely a right of passage for any self respecting U.S. president. Not that anybody should have been surprised, given the bucket loads of cash that Obama accrued from defence contractors during his marathon funding adventure prior to election.

Obama’s promised escalation of the Afghanistan theatre lead to ‘unspecified numbers of civilians’ losing their lives in Pakistan this week in the countries tribal region; victims of an unmanned drone.

The lack of action from Obama over Israel’s defiance of international law and the U.N. also raises questions of whether, even given the will to do so, Obama can reign in free flowing Israeli aggression, given his subservience to the ‘military industrial complex’, and its reliance on Israeli consumption of U.S. arms.

Barry Obama is the fisrt Democratic candidate since Clinton to beat the Republican’s in gaining defense contributions for the Democrats as a whole.

Whilst liberals salivate at the prospect of a first black president and ‘change’. His utterances on the subject of war and foreign policy have obvioulsy won him traditionally ‘conservative’ supporters amongst the lobbyist community on capitol hill.

Whilst McCain offered them the enticing potential of a new ‘hundread’ year war if ‘that’s what it took’, Barry’s evident commitment to reinforcing the much more inflating, war like, situation in Afghanistan and even spreading the conflcit into neighbouring nuclear armed Pakistan….sounds, well…..alot more lucrative (in the short term at least).

The ‘militray industrial complex’ has done exceptionally well under the Bush administration. Whether they back ‘winners’ or win elections is a book in itself but the dark shadow of Eisenhower’s warning, about the military industrial complex and its influence upon politics seems alive and well within Obama’s promise of ‘being the change’.

When the dust settles on the dodgy election of the year (Zimbabwe) where will the press corps move onto? Another barbaric, tyrannical regime? A missing kid or a pop star?

One tyrannical regime I am willing to wager that they won’t ‘move onto’ is Saudi Arabia. Strange that, given that the BAE corruption scandal came into focus again recently, as it was responsible for single handedly catapulting Britain to the top of the arms dealers list.

Not only do the Saudis not bother with the charade of democracy but they use OUR weapons to keep down their populace. And we bribe their autocratic leaders to buy our weapons. No hysteria about their torture of their civilians, their lack of democracy, their ‘evil’ leaders…wonder why?

But what does Mr Mugabe use against his people? Wasn’t he a client of arms dealer UK plc too, as part of New Labour’s ‘ethical’ foreign policy? Yet another dictator we gave arms too to fight his own people and we now demand the resignation of. Pick up the gun Robert…..
